Humus is the name used to define the uppest layer of soil which is very rich in decomposed organic material and micro-organisms. For the soil to be fertile, it must contain humus.
Fertile soils contain organic material, minerals, water and air. Even though organic material is present in minor quantity, it is the one which improves the physico- chemical properties of the soil and stimulates the growth of crops. The presence of humus in a proportion of 1% or 2% is enough to make the soil fertile. But the natural process of humus formation can take years. For this reason, world-wide experts have analyzed the possibility of producing this substance in a shorter time.
¿How can humus be "produced"?... With the help of worms
Worms of the Eisenia Foetida species, or Californian Red Worms, consume large quantities of decomposed organic material. Of this ingestion, up to 60% is excreted as a substance called "worm humus", "worm compost", or "vermicompost", which constitutes an ideal substrate for the proliferation of useful microorganisms. Worms transform the non assimilable minerals present in waste and animal remains into nitrates and phosphates which are directly consumed by plants.
Worm humus is odorless, it does not rot or ferment, and generally looks like lees of coffee. A chemical analysis of worm humus will show: until 2,5% of nitrogen, 2,5% of phosphorus, 2,5% of potassium, 3% of calcium, a bacterial load of 2 billion per gram, and a pH between 6,5 and 7.2. All the studies carried out have concluded that the vermicompost is an organic fertilizer of a very high quality, long-lasting effect and easy and economical to produce..

¿How can humus be “applied”?. With the help of PRORGANIC.
WORMS ARGENTINA has developed the most advanced system of application of worm humus through its programme “PRORGANIC”, which consists of an attendance to the users of our fertilizing amendment: WORMLIZER Worm Humus®, also called Worm compost or Vermicompost.
